Fire Trace SYSTEM - Novec™

Novec™ 1230 (FK-5-1-12) is a clean agent fire suppression system designed to protect against Class A, B, and C fires, and it complies with NFPA 2001 Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems. It provides rapid and highly effective fire suppression, is safe for use in occupied spaces, and leaves no residue after discharge. In addition, Novec™ 1230 is considered one of the safest and most environmentally friendly Halon alternatives, thanks to its zero ozone depletion potential and very low global warming impact.

How Does Novec™ 1230 Work?

Novec™ 1230 suppresses fire by disrupting the fire triangle, which consists of heat, oxygen, and fuel. Once discharged, it quickly removes heat and interrupts the chemical reaction of the fire, leading to fast and effective extinguishment. Fire suppression systems using Novec™ 1230 can reach the required extinguishing concentration in 10 seconds or less.

What is the Chemical Name for Novec™ 1230?

The chemical name of Novec™ 1230 is Dodecafluoro-2-methylpentan-3-one (FK-5-1-12). It is a colorless fluid at room temperature, stored as a liquid under nitrogen pressure. Upon activation, it vaporizes and floods the protected area to extinguish the fire.

Is Novec™ 1230 Dangerous?

Novec™ 1230 is low in toxicity and safe for use in occupied spaces when handled according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. At recommended exposure levels, it does not pose significant health risks. Environmentally, it is highly sustainable, with an atmospheric lifetime of less than 5 days and a very low global warming potential compared to other agents such as FM-200™.
